For both the summers of 2015 and most recently 2016, Kevin Cummings has interned with us doing web and application development. We asked Kevin to share a little bit about himself and his experience here at CodeRed this past summer.

You can connect with Kevin on LinkedIn.

Which school do you go to and what are you majoring in?

I am starting college at Miami University (OH) this fall, and I am majoring in Computer Science and Business Economics.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job is to start a corporation that develops technology products and invests in startup companies.

How did you decide to intern at CodeRed?

When I was searching for companies in Cleveland to intern at, I found CodeRed's website. They stood out because they had a high quality website, and they had an intern position open.

What have you worked on at CodeRed?

I worked on CodeRed's client portal, contributed to a few client projects, and helped develop the CodeRed Secure CMS.

How will this work experience help you achieve your career goals?

I have learned how to create quality applications, and I have learned a lot about running a company from Vince.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned here?

The most interesting thing I have learned at CodeRed is how to develop applications professionally. Professional projects are different from school projects because they are more challenging, and they involve finding the best way to do something instead of following steps given by a teacher. This requires more critical thinking, and helped me develop professional skills.

What advice would you give to other people taking part in an internship?

My advice to other interns is to challenge themselves and to take on tough projects. This is the best way to learn, and it is much more satisfying than easy work.

What would you say is the key takeaway of your internship at CodeRed?

In my two summers at CodeRed, I learned professional web development and how to work with APIs. The most important part of my experience was working in an environment that focuses on quality and security, setting a high standard for my future work.

Best of luck to Kevin as he furthers his education at Miami University. If you're interested in working with us, please contact us and drop us a line.
